People’s Choice Winner…

Street and Park Furniture were excited to attend the South Australian AILA Awards held on the 29^th of October at the Science Exchange.

Street and Park’s own Michelle Herbut and Tamrah Petruzzelli from The Adelaide Review presented the award on the night. And we’d like to congratulate the winner’s, Wax Design and Ric McConaghy for Wombat Waterhole, Hazelwood Park Playspace!

Street and Park would also like to congratulate the lucky voter, Sue Poulton from Beulah Park. Sue has chosen the Grindle Seat and I’m sure it will be the perfect addition to her backyard.

Well done to all the winner’s on the evening, and thanks again for letting us be a part of your special night.

INNOVATION WILL GIVE THE EDGE

Street and Park Furniture, along with Rossi Boots, have been selected under a pilot program to work with business advisers and design specialists to develop new strategies for growth.

“Managing Director, Cameron Johnston is convinced better cities start at street level.

So he is focusing on good, well-designed street furniture to help achieve that aim.

The Street and Park Furniture managing director says that to deliver on function and form is at times quite challenging, particularly when the market is looking for a bespoke solution rather than an off-the-shelf item.”

To help improve manufacturing and design competitiveness for his leading-edge furniture design company, Street and Park Furniture applied to be a part of the Design Integration Program, which is modelled on a NZ program which has seen success to over 70 companies since its conception.

“Mr Johnston said he was excited by opportunities the new State and Federal Government program would give local businesses to gain a competitive edge by using innovative design.”

INTERNATIONAL PARK(ing) DAY!

PARK(ing) Day is an annual, worldwide event that invites people everywhere to transform metered parking spots into temporary parks for the public.

Last year this event transformed 850 parks in 183 cities in 30 countries!

2011 PARK(ing) Day, held on Friday 16^th of September, saw Street and Park Furniture and Wax Design supplying furniture to PARK(ing) magicians and landscape contractors, Outside Idea’s and urban consultants InfraPlan. Their space on Rundle St in Adelaide’s east, was transformed into a tranquil reading space, which we’re sure was utilised by customers of the Mary Martin Book Shop conveniently located opposite the ‘park’.

Street and Park were proud to be a part of this worldwide event and hope that it continues to grow in the future, and support any event that improves urban quality.

Next year, don’t park your car…park your bum, or bike or book!

Street and Park Furniture are sponsoring the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects SA People’s Choice Award 2011. The public have a chance to vote on a range of projects in the Design Category, and in doing so go into the draw to win a seat supplied by us!

Vol 1. Chapter 1…

In keeping with our new website, we at Street and Park Furniture have developed a hard-copy brochure, Custom Brochure Vol 1, showcasing all of the recent installations we have supplied.

These projects consist of products we have designed/co-designed/refined, manufactured and supplied. All using different materials, and manufacturing methods, like certified timber, architectural wedge wire mesh and cast and fabricated frames. We dealt direct with Councils and Landscape Architectural firms.

These projects and many more will be uploaded onto our website shortly under Projects and Products in our Custom heading. You will get an image, detailed description of each product or project, with the location and material listing. This portion of our website will be updated regularly as will our hard-copy brochure which will fit into our A5 black box specifiers manual.

Street and Park and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects National Conference!

Street and Park Furniture are proud to announce they are bronze sponsors of the 2011 AILA National Conference, which is being held at the Brisbane Convention Center 11-13^th August.

This year’s event is all about climate change challenges, opportunities and urban design solutions. The theme for the event is ‘transform’. Transforming urban landscapes, attitudes and behaviour, communities and practice and education.

Street and Park is keenly aware of transforming space as it frequently works with landscape architects as they design these spaces, re-using material that the space offers, such as timber and steel. The Queen Victoria Markets bench, designed by Urban Edge Consultants in Victoria is an excellent example in re-using old timber posts for timber slats.

Street and Park, a sponsor and mentor in the NAG Design Festival Competition

Street and Park Furniture is a proud South Australian based company and is happy to show its continued support to young designers, architects and landscape architects and events like this, Adelaide’s NAG (New Architects and Graduates) Design Festival Competition. As a mentor and manufacturer for this competition, Street and Park were pleased and excited to be working with last year’s winner Sean Humphries on his winning design, the Folding Rundle suite of furniture, for the Rundle Street Upgrade in the cities east.

The range was made from galvanised laser cut and folded mild steel. It also bought some challenges, like connecting a microphone and speakers to the leg and backrest for recording and playback, all without compromising the aesthetic. It was well worth it as we feel that for a conservative city, this innovative design shows the rest of Australia that South Australia means business…or design!

The range consists of seats, bike racks and soon to be installed benches.

Solar & Lighting News

Street and Park Furniture and Pecan Lighting Sydney’s representative Michelle Herbut has organised a new Solar Lighting and LED brochure for Pecan Lighting's Tour of Australia with Mike Morrow, the sales coordinator from our Canadian LED supplier, LED Roadway Lighting.

The tour began at the SPARC Lighting Event in Sydney and will end in Adelaide later this week.

The brochure is designed to show and explain what the advantages are of a Pecan Solar Light, and how LED’s can benefit you.

Lighting is not something that is just fixed to the top of a pole, it can be used in Street Furniture too, to light pathways or even for decorative purposes. Street and Park Furniture has vast experience in this and can help you design something that will suit your needs.

Check out the University of Adelaide, Waite Campus and see the precast concrete bollards and benches with LED’s and coming soon the Outfit Light benches from Vekso installed on the new Prospect Rd Upgrade in South Australia.

It’s been a busy 18 months for Street and Park Furniture. We now have a new full time Sales Representative for the East Coast of Australia. Based in Sydney’s inner west and travelling regularly to Victoria and Queensland, Michelle Herbut has been with the company for 6 years and is a qualified Designer, knowledgeable in all products and processes. Cameron rides 1,100 kilometers on a bike….. In just 7 days !!

On May 8 Street & Park Director Cameron Johnston will be starting a mammoth journey on two wheels. He and 18 hardy souls will head out from the centre of Melbourne down Apollo Bay and around to Adelaide. The route takes in the Great Ocean Road and then heads inland to avoid the logging trucks around Millicent and Mt Gambier.

But you would only do this if there was a really good reason to do it. An in this case there is - raising funds for a charity called Mind Australia. Mind Australia is a leading independent community based organisation working with people with mental illness to get them back into life

Each year Mind support over 4,000 clients and 4000 carers through 92 programs in South Australia and Victoria to;

· rebuild their lives

· reconnect with family and friends

· rediscover life as full and active members of the community.

They help people make life saving changes.

This work has become even more imperative with the impending closure of facilities at Glenside hospital.

Exposing yourself to others difficulties and offering a hand is a very rewarding experience. Imagine having cycled 200 km in a day and thinking to yourself, that took a fair effort and then needing to do that another 5 days. In my mind mental illness must be a little like this except that distance of the journey is unknown. To cope with this as a patient or parent must take the sort of tenacity entrepreneurs could only dream about.

This 2500 square metre building houses a brand new in house combination punch and laser cutting machine, CNC turret press machine, CNC press break machine, programmable guillotining, welding bays, timber finishing areas, furniture assembly areas, packaging, offices and more.
